Ceasar
UPDATE April 3, 2006 - Cesar spent his first evening at his forever home with an assortment of critters from lizards
to sugar gliders, as well as 2 canine companions and even 2 human companions. Here's what gentleman of the
house had to say:
Cesar looked for you guys for a few hours and when I saw him stress a bit too much, I just put a leash on
him and he actually thanked me and calmed right down. A few hours later, he got a bit neurotic and I did the
same thing, then we all put a movie on and got the entire family in the living room and napped for an hour together
after the movie. After our nap, Cesar simply ceased going to the doors and front window and
began asserting himself as the head lord and master. He has adopted everybody in the house and has even
given the sugar gliders a kiss! We are most impressed. Our doggy buddies are out back so we're gonna go play a
bit, will write you later. Thanks so much guys! Johnny & Carolyn
UPDATE April 11, 2006 - I can’t say enough about this boy. He is enjoying his domain so much. He barked at a
teenager walking in the field out back, then barked at my neighbor 2 times when coming back into the back yard
from walks in the woods because he thought she was in his yard. On his second day here, he ran and lunged the
neighbor’s 90 pound black lab when he came over to the fence line, my wife and I were sitting out back and we
saw this. He told that dog he had BETTER stay on his side then he trotted back to us and lay down between us all
proud of himself. He speaks when he wants something and he is learning to howl at the train with Stevie
and me. So he is showing watchdog qualities and when I let him out, he polices the fence line and checks the
tool shed and sniffs everything out there and when. He's satisfied his area is secure, he comes over smiling and
walking tall and proud. I have not said a WORD to this dog about "guarding"; he is doing this on his own. As he
grows tenderer to us and these other critters, he is exuding more confidence and willingly becoming the family
protector. He does so many unexpected and impressive things. He is graceful and aware of his size. He knows
where and how to keep from being an obstacle in the room WITHOUT knocking things over or stepping on toes...
Not once yet. I wish my other two dogs could be this graceful and nimble. He has a look in his eye that says he's
about ready to remove limbs from anybody who tries to hurt anybody in this house. The best part is, I do not have to
say a word to him. He's so intelligent that he figures things out for himself and he's so proud he wants to stay ahead
of things so he won’t have to be corrected. He LOVES praise and he loves everybody in his house and is
ESPECIALLY tender to ME and the tiny critters. Cesar is Quintessential German Shepherd...pride, intelligence and
loyalty. He is as happy with us as we are with him and has already made himself a family member in all ways. We
are grateful that this worked out so well. Thank you guys so much.
John and Carolyn and the gang.
p.s. The other [bunny] was/is so unafraid of the dogs that we decided to build him a home here. Cesar LOVES him
and he likes Cesar too. Cesar asks me to take him out and he gives "Binky" the most gentle and tender kiss right
on the head then he is satisfied. I swear to you the bunny gets visibly pissed off if you don't pick him up and hold
him before long. Cesar is learning skills with the bunny which are helping him to deal gently with the gliders. We do
not allow him free reign in their room as we do with Stevie and Lady because he still gets kinda wound up when they
leap and fly but this morning, he was allowed to lay on the floor half in the doorway while Carolyn played with the
gliders and I sat with Cesar. He observed how the other 2 dogs remain laying down in the glider room and followed
their example. There are just too many critter tales of the impossible and unbelievable going on here and Cesar
continues to receive high marks and surprise us every single day. I only wish we had a video camera. I could not
have ended up with a better dog if I had raised him myself and THAT is a huge surprise for me.
Shep - This great guy found a wonderful home in Austin.
An Update From Shep's New Family ~
Hello everyone.
First, thank you all for all that you do. Much
love. Shep is doing great. He's pukey so he and I have watched 5
movies and cuddled and spooned for the last two days. I did have to
carry him up the stairs the first day, but now that he knows what's up
there, he does great on his own. He knows what pillows are for and he
likes his big orthopedic bed. Sue and I have pilled many a dog in our
years, but you're right, Shep doesn't like it. So for now he does just fine
if I pulverize his pill and mix it with those fancy soft food, single servings.
He really likes the Breath Buster biscuits. Our cookie jar is always full of
those. His potty habits are perfect and he's doing fine on that end.
After some nose to nose and T-touch he is fine with me touching and
looking at his ear.
I miss him already so it's time for more cuddles. Sue took the next 7 days
off so Shep won't be alone at all the first nine days and then his new
brother and sister will be with him.
Thank you again everyone. He's in good hands. Stay in touch.

Meg- Meg and Jonah were adotped together!
Adoption Update: Adopters are a young family with two boys 7 and 14.
Less than a week after the sudden passing of their beloved Rusty, the 7
year old proclaims "it's time to get another dog". He also mentioned that
they should get two to help fill the void when Rusty went to the Rainbow
Bridge. The family fell in love with Meg and after much discussion they
decided on a non-related young boy dog. The boy puppy happened to
be Jonah!
Hans - He was in and out of our group before he could even be named.
Hans was adopted with another pup of ours, Jolo (formerly Jody).
Update May 10, 2006 - Just a quick little note, both puppies are doing
wonderful. Hans is growing every day and has turned into a water rat! He loves the
pool. He swims his little heart out, retrieving toys, jumping in and climbing out without
any help.
Update from her new home:
Jody is not as timid any more. She does not really favor the water, but
will probably learn as time goes by.
Both are trying to be guard dogs, barking when someone approaches
the house. I am expecting to be able to make the neuter appointment
for both soon. They are still coughing a bit, Jody more than Hans. Jody
is due to go back at the end of the month for her Rabies. I will then
make final evaluation for spaying. As far as I can tell they are also both
house broken, in any case we have not had any accidents. All dogs
get along very well, though my Lab is a bit more reserved towards
those "youngsters". Take care, more news soon.
Jolo (Jody) - This lucky girl found a great home with Hans.
